A successful collaboration that merges the sports giant’s global expertise in functional sportswear with Yohji’s design aesthetics that has lead to the creation of an entire new market- fashionable sportswear.?? We love how the name represents this collaboration? – Y for Yohji and the 3? represents Adidas’ three signature stripes.Creative Director designer, Yohji Yamamoto was in town last Saturday to launched Y-3′s new Spring/Summer 2010 men/women’s collection. Butterboom caught up with him at the opening of the new Y-3 store at the K11 Art Mall, Tsimshatsui amongst hordes of local press and a big turnout of shoppers with one of Hong Kong’s most popular cantopop/artist Andy Lau, and famous Chinese model, Du Juan.Butterboom: This is not your first trip to Hong Kong, how do you feel about being back in Hong Kong ?Yohji Yamamoto: I like Hong Kong a lot, it is good to be back.? Hong Kong is a city that has a mix of everything, high and low fashion, its an interesting place. I am here because Y-3 is an important brand for me.Butterboom: When you design for Y-3, are you designing with a particular person in mind?Yohji Yamamoto: I am designing for the beautiful women jogging in the park – think Jennifer Gartner from Alias. (A hit US TV series about an international spy, Sydney Bristow)Butterboom: What is your inspiration for the Y-3 Spring/Summer 2010 collection?Yohji Yamamoto: My inspiration for this collection came from the 2010 FIFA World Cup that is coming up. I’m a fan of the South American football teams. This line is particularly interesting as it is a fusion of sport and fashion. When soccer players shoot and hit the goal, the net swings into a beautiful shape,? this inspired a series of laser-cut T-shirts and dresses that captured the same movement.Butterboom: If you weren’t a designer today, what would you be?Yohji Yamamoto: A Designer. There’s nothing else I would do.Butterboom: What inspires you?Yohji Yamamoto: Inspiration comes from everywhere- I get lots of ideas especially, when I am driving.Photo source: Koichi Inakoshi-->
